PASSED STEP3! My experience
usmleman - 12-14-08 02:46
passed, score 88. UW average 61, NBME 410
thanks to all forum members ---- your suggestions, experiences have really helped me. Its time for payback -- if i can be of any help please dont hesitate to e-mail me at deanjohn91@yahoo.com
Step3 is an exam about very common office problems. There were very few Qs on rare problems on my test. For preperation, I tried a very different method of doing several MCQs. I did UW, Kaplan qbanks as well as NMS Step3. I studied all the material under the questions. UW is popular but i cannot recall even 10 Qs from that q bank coming on the exam. Kaplan is a much better source for common issues and Qs.
If you have time, www.ccsworkshop.com Step3 reviews are very good and up to the point. This review notes addresses lot of common clinical problems that I dint find in many books and many of them were on my exam. Their CCS Workshop is very informative and also your CCS performance and will boost your Step3 score I studied Kaplan Step2 for Psych, OBGyn and Peds. Crush step3 is a great last minute review book and I liked it .
Best,
Dean

Re: PASSED STEP3! My experience
bingousmle - 12-16-08 07:28 and i felt compelled to answer a query that was addressed to me...
but even i feel, its better if all the queries that one has are put in one post itself, or start a different thread for the same, so that relevant things are discussed under the topic.

Re: PASSED STEP3! My experience
sackatdoc - 12-16-08 12:11 it was just a realisation that made me tickle indeed ,you people took it seriously, put whatever you feel like where ever you like, this is a feel good place, no uptight rules, as if the world outside is not enough, what i meant was step3 is the final step and registering with ecfmg is first so when i saw them together, it made me realise the disparity.

Re: PASSED STEP3! My experience
longterm - 01-04-09 08:44 thanks for your advise
I followed your recommendation on this forum and I attended this course. Very precise, Dr.red is highly approachable, very knowledgeabl;e and patiently answers all questions. All topics are very highyield, did not find in most books or review courses but these were what frequently tested on step3. Preventive medicine, Cardio, endo, gastro, ID, Derm and Pulm werethe best of all. Furthermore, very affordable course. I paid $169 for everything including study material
CCS Workshop is another different story - i paid $88 for it- it took me to a different level in step3 ccs approach. I am so confident now. I highly recommend this workshop and rapid review. Dr.Red is doing very noble thing by keeping the cost involved very very low! His courses are referred to as Archer's step3 courses.

Re: PASSED STEP3! My experience
rainbow - 03-29-09 00:21 Congrats to usmleman,
I am writing for the first time here in ''The step 3 group''.
Sorry guys if I am bothering anybody by asking this basic question,
'' What is the best way to start studying for step 3, specially since I have been out of it for some time, my step 2 was in 2007?''
I did the center prep kaplan courses for step 1 and 2, and now dont have the money to do the center prep kaplan for step 3, specialy after spending all the money for an unsuccesful scramble.
Thanks so much.

Re: PASSED STEP3! My experience
sackatdoc - 03-29-09 09:11 hi RAINBOW, starting anything afresh usually overwhelms us, sets in doubt & gives jitters, but we should make every effort to realize this and try over come these feelings,
I can totally relate with you, so think can give you a good advice. SO listen to this close, studying for step 3 will be totally simplified once you realize a very basic fact that this exam is testing that how well you work unsupervised, you need to know all the basic disease management as the patient comes to you in office, ER or ward or ICU, so just have get more responsible studying everything that is required to make that patient well, at each step, this reading is to make our independent, once we get this fact internalised, facts stay longer with us. I think that trick works wonders, Also if u like u can discuss with me online, we can have study sessions. All the best you will do great.
