places that hire MDs

If I dont get a spot in the scramble and wanted to reapply for 2009, what kind of PAID jobs can one get as an MD and where is the best place to look for them...i already have 2 years of us clinical experience so an externship would be a waste of time for a full year...
any ideas anyone?

radhamesramos - 02-19-08 19:14 For research purposes? That is the only one I know that sponsors visas, if visa is not a proble to you, then you can work as a PA, interpreter in a hospital, research again, EKG tech, phlebotomist etc

doctor1 - 02-20-08 16:54 hey I am not sure if a research spot sponsoring a visa will be open for candidates without sound experince in the field ..i mean the websites say 2 to 3 yrs of experience but definitely phlebotomist is something I heard from many sources

Re: places that hire MDs
mindswapper - 02-21-08 09:32 I have done some research projects too (back in my med skool).
But being a phlebotomist - I think we are overqualified for that!

Re: places that hire MDs
kiba31 - 02-21-08 11:15 yeah its definitely tough finding jobs that will pay in the hospital but just gotta be persistent, or there is always healtcare consulting, which alot of MDs do but might need the business experience and background for that.
as for phlebotomist, sure we are overqualified but at least you can pay off some loans!

Re: places that hire MDs
mindswapper - 02-21-08 12:01 Will they sponsor a visa for a phlebotomist?
What is Healthcare consulting? How can we do that? Will a visa be sponsored?

Re: places that hire MDs
radhamesramos - 02-22-08 09:52 Nobody would sponsor a avisa for a phlebostomist, unless it is in the northern part of alaska, or the worst hole in Arkansas...and not even like that.
J visas are sponsored in research spots because it is an exchange visa, and you are learning something that you can apply in your country later (supposedly). Some research pograms sponsor H, for example the NIH and UM, because they are not for profit.
Job like phlebotomist, or EKG tech, are in institution for profit (so, no H visa, unless no american citizen/legal alien wants to work there and they can prove it), and they cannot sponsor J, because I don't think phlebotomists are needed in our countries.
And about an O visa, don't even imagine it
Try the NIH website, and good luck in your search.

radhamesramos - 02-23-08 17:55 But remember they are ultra competitive, but they can give you the chance if they think you are what they want
