Post Doctoral fellowship.

Hello!!

I am in a very dicey situation. I have applied to residency position this year and have not recieved any interviews. It is very important for me to start with something now to be able to sustain in this race. I am currently helping a faculty member with a research project and simultaneously looking for post doctoral fellowship positions. The university where i am also has many post doctoral fellowship positions and i am thinking of going and meeting the research coordinator. But i was thinking how should i present myself, should i hide the fact that i am ecfmg certified? or if i tell her: how do i convince her that i am interested in research.

What u cud tell the coordinator is that u want to match into a good university residency program and later want to do a competitive fellowship. All this wud be possible only if u have a year or more of research with publications.U will also need to give them a two year commitment in most cases, and if it is a basic sciences research they will train u in animal handling and other techniques for a few months.
Good Luck!

Thanks adonis,

One more thing. They have different positions available in all different fields like, neuroscience, cell biology, stem cell and regenerative medicine, immunology. so the question is i just want a post doctoral fellowship position so do not really have any specific choice. although i like neuroscience but i donot wnat to miss any other chance as i am ready to take whatever is available. How do i say this to her? Also is it ok to just barge in her office and talk about my interests and hand her my CV and Research statement? whenever i call her it goes in the voice box. I plan to go to her office tomorrow. what do i do????

Ye, if the call is not recieved by the Research Coordinator then u have no other option but to meet her in person. How well do u know her?Does she already know that u r currently assisting an Attending in his/her clinical research? If u know her well and often talk to her then meeting in person wud even lead to some better outcome. There is nothing wrong about going to meet her in her office as u have to start somewhere.Tell her respectfully that u had left many voice mails and also tell her more about the fact that u r currently assisting an attending physician in his/her research. Then tell her that u have found the field of research very interesting and u now r very much interested in joining as a postdoc in their department.
Do not ever tell them anything about yur current applications to the various residency programs,as it will reveal to them yur lack of commitment to research.
Take whatever is available as u cannot be choosy.
Write a good CV and an excellent Research Statement.
BTW, do u need a visa for the Post Doc Position?
Best of Luck to u for yur meeting with the Research Coordinator!

I just asked about the visa issue because in the current economic situation it may play a role as most postdoc programs may want to keep themselves away from the hassle of sponsoring a visa.
But, let it not deter u from applying to postdoc positions at yur university.May be sponsoring a visa is a non-issue for them.
Try hard and I hope u succeed in getting a PostDoc position!

Thanks once again adonis,

I was also thinking of searching for clinical research positions. I have personally known people who were doing paid research jobs but now i am not in contact with them. Can you suggest where to/how to search for clinical research jobs positions??

Just apply to the US universities and medical schools known to be doing a lot of clinical research.
Here is a link for the Research Rankings and other details of Best US Medical schools/universities:

Good Luck!
