USMLE Step 2 CS - Queries...queries...
Queries...queries...
bobby - 08-14-08 16:55
I have a number of queries--
1.What do U guys think is better ?Written (hand written) or typed patient note?If someones' hand writing is not bad....is it still better to type?
2.What is the ideal dress code for the examinee--male and female?
3.what is the best way to explain to the SP about your role ?
4.When U explain about the support groups-which patient can approach in case of "domestic violence" or "suicidal ideation"---is there any special group U refer to or how do U counsel them about it?

Re: Queries...queries...
sackatdoc - 08-17-08 23:39 dont know why nobody is replying to these queries, for once i wanted to give people relief by not forcing my opinions first,anyways....
1.nothing perse is better, its upto the individual, typed ones are for those who donot write legibly.good hands should flaunt it off by it down.
2.should be strictly formal for either sex, its all mentioned in cd posted by USMLE.
3.There is no best way, what ever makes you confident and comfortable, that is anything that you can blurt out with absolute ease should be practised and used.
4.saying support groups or social services according to me is adequate, specifying details of each is not mandatory.you have to tell that i give you the details of some support groups to help you with this situation, or social services can be contacted to assess your situation and you can be helped accordingly.

Queries...queries...
bobby - 08-22-08 17:38 Hey,it was not at all"great"...in fact I feel frustrated at the end of it all.
1.Forgot at least 2-3 points to ask in almost every case...some though not important...some "were important".
2.The "time pressure" hung like the sword of Democleses constantly--maybe thats the reason for all the forgetting!!
3.I even forgot to mention in the patient note ,an examination I had done.
4.In one case I did not read the instruction properly...was told not to do physical exam...& I asked the patient for it.I was not rude, but I erred.
5.I remembered all small things like knocking on the door, wishing the patient, asking permission before examination, drapping patient, washing hands, counselling etc.
Can you/anyone tell me what impact these errors shall have on the results?
Think that I shall have to prepare all over again.Wonder if after that I can make it to the Match 2009.
In a nutshell I feel frustrated.I wonder if others too feel the same way!

Re: Queries...queries...
sackatdoc - 08-23-08 12:48 according to me, these are all a passe' big deal!! people do blunders and pass, if you closed properly, followed all the routine of greeting and asking permission, didnot freakout, showed you are safe to practice in US, you yourself will know- were you lousy or carried out yourself well.doing everything by the textbook dont think is possible,so chill bobby take care.
