There no such a thing as organized Scramble. It is a monopoly NRMP is creating calling it "Managed Scramble" which is nothing but more money for their pockets. I think everyone should be against this Managed Scramble monopoly and instead make the ERAS process cheaper. AAMC is a money hungry institution.

This managed scramble is being discussed now by NRMP and they say that will implement it in 2011 most likely so the scramble in 2010 still the same scramble. Fax, Email and phone calls and ERAS. You must do all 4 to increase your chances. ERAS is limited to 30 new and 15 old so it is not enough to use it as a way to introduce yourself. Phone calls are also not enough because you will reach no more than 10% of the programs on scramble day by phone. Fax and email introduction is the way. You can also enroll in the Meet A Resident database ... http://www.meetaresident.com

Meet A Resident allows you to introduce yourself by video as well. That is the first time residency programs can see the applicants in videos.

It's supposed to be an organized scramble

The NRMP Board of Directors, meeting in Washington, DC on May 4, 2009, voted to proceed with implementation of a "managed" Scramble for the Main Residency Match. A joint NRMP-AAMC work group will continue to refine the plan, which will require programs to offer and applicants to accept unfilled positions through the NRMP R3 System during Match Week. A "managed" Scramble would be implemented no earlier than the 2011 Match, according to NRMP.

Here is a summary of this new process:

"Applicants in the scramble will have 48 hours to apply and interview at programs, so much of the time pressure is removed from the scramble. Programs will then rank applicants. Then, once the offers start, applicants will get offers in batches every 2 hours. Applicants can then take a single offer, or decline them and wait for another round. Once an applicant declines an offer, there is no getting it back . Applicants can get multiple offers in a single round, and then they get to choose one.
Time pressure is gone. Applicants have 48 hours to apply for spots, and they cannot be filled before then.
Applicants get 2 hours to decide when they get an offer.
The scramble is now part of the match. "Scrambles" are now bound by the match rules.
Applicants can apply to multiple fields.
In each round it will be made clear how many spots are left ."

Good Luck!
