A course has a certain number of credits assigned to it depending upon its lecture, tutorial and laboratory contact hours in a week. This weightage is also indicative of the academic expectation that includes in-class contact and self-study outside of class hours. You will have to complete the required number of credits in a course of study before u can earn a degree, etc.

So, u pay for such a course as per credits. The fees u pay per course credit per semester will be shown on the institute's webpage.

Good Luck!

The number of credits required to complete a semester for yur particular PhD or MPH program will be mentioned on the webpage of that program.
Here is some information for u to understand this credit based tuition fee system:
Normally to be considered a full time student you have to take at least 12 credit hours a semester but normally most students take anywhere from 12 to 16 credit hours a semester. It normally depends on what a student is doing like they might have a double-major so they take more credits a semester to compensate.
Generally, each course is worth 3 credits each and to be a full time student one must be taking 12 credits, so that would be 4 courses. But , people may take five or six courses per semester or so .

Standard practice for a semester is 12 hours minimum for full time. Most majors require +-120 hours to graduate, so to graduate in four years you would have to average 15 hours a semester. And , generally, the maximum hours, without approval, is 18 per semester.

Most of the time, you get one credit hour for each 50 minutes per week you spend in class.

Fees per credit hour per semester will be given on the programs webpage. So, u can easily calculate it now.

To understand it more visit this link of Purdue University at http://www.purdue.edu/registrar/pdf/Credit_Hour_Guidelines.pdf .
They have clearly and very simply explained this concept in their credit hour guidelines.

Good Luck!

well i checked the link u provided but there was no info there , anyways u have explained it very well , so it means that if a university is charging 901$/credit it means they r charging 901$/hour and the semester fee can be upto 901$ * 12=10812 $ per semester ! , thats alot of money , how is it possible to pay such huge amount of money every six months , almost impossible!

I gave the link because the Univ. has very well explained its own guidelines. Were u able to open the link?
Yes, that is the only way to calculate it roughly.Usually, students apply for financial aid or educational loans for these courses and then also do some on campus jobs to support themselves.
Also, the tuition fees do vary from university to university.Top universities will absolutely charge a lot of fees.
Good Luck!
