Research activities in a Research Elective can be either basic or clinical. It is the intent of the elective that the student will develop a research design, recognizing the literature leading up to the questions asked in their study, or in the event of working on an already initiated ongoing project, fully understand the above mentioned background and defining their specific role in the investigative activity.
A Research Elective is helpful if:
1.It results in publications in well-known journals.
2.If the research mentor is a person of renown.
3.If done in institutes like Johns Hopkins,Harvard, etc.
4.If applying to a non-clinical specialty like Pathology.
But,remember, most programs may not consider it as a clinical experience if it lacks a component of history-taking,physical exam, and treatment plan.
So it wud be better to go rather for another clinical elective at Johns Hopikins, etc instead of a research elective.
Good Luck!
