residency chances
ask_question - 06-15-08 19:36
Hello I have an urgent question, heard from some credible resources that once an IMG having passed the step one , two and three and is qualified to apply for residency in USA, chances are way less for those who have graduated for more than 8 years, is this true, please for advice and if there is a certain organisation that deals with relvant issues about residency, please do let me know.
thank you

Re: residency chances
TheOne - 06-16-08 17:57 It's simple, the more time since graduation the less the chance to get in.
BUT if you've been medically active since then "joined a residency, internship, observer, research, have yourown practice, etc." then you don't have to worry at all.

Re: residency chances
doctor1 - 06-17-08 08:10 thats true, the main reason why the programs prefer recent grads is just bcos of their touch with the subject and the constant patient that they have , so in case you can provide that u should be fine ,esp with lots of senior physicians coming from uk and other countries

radhamesramos - 06-17-08 17:10 I matched after 7 year of graduation, it was though, but I did it, so if you really insist and work hard you can do it too

Re: residency chances
radhamesramos - 06-18-08 08:58 The scores in the exam are a mixture of things that make a great influece upon your performance that specific day: stress, fear, a great desire to score over the 90s, sleep deprivation, nutrition, etc. So, probably there was something that was out of balance and made you score less than in the practice. Now you have to leave that behind and start your looking for a residency position

Re: residency chances
sackatdoc - 06-18-08 14:58 thanks dude i anticipated this kind of encouragement from you..THANKS VERY MUCH.they say a good SP score is a last chance to show PD that you have academic potential.Without exactly knowing where i went wrong twice ,i cannot generate enough courage to sit for step3&score again just passing marks.

Re: residency chances
TheOne - 06-20-08 19:38 Clever applying = IMG friendly programs. How can you find a list of such programs? try matcharesident.com for example, just go their and play with their customized list feature and see your numbers.

Re: residency chances
radhamesramos - 06-21-08 11:19 The emails can give you the result for what you asked for: if for anobservership, you'll get a reply for the obsie. If you want to know what do they want fro thir candidates, you'll get that answer but not both. If you want to go, personally, ou could do so, but it is not practical, unless you are in the area
