I'm about to start medical school on another country. What are my chances of obtaining a position in a surgical residency?

TheOne - 02-14-08 12:25 If you're an IMG, Surgical residencies are very competitive and hard to get here in the States. I would think twice before applying.

smike12222 - 02-17-08 09:18 i would not say it is impossible because i know people who went to carribean medical school and end it up in surgery, but they had very high steps scores.

radhamesramos - 02-19-08 19:01 If you can start med school in the US, it would be the best choice...if not ppossible, try to clear the two steps before graduation (very difficult for foreign grads, since their school methods are different), also try to do at least one clerkship in surgeryin the U:S, meet people there, and try to get good LORS, and apply as soon as you can. Also try to get a position as researcher, and probably like that with good grades you could get a categorical spot in surgery
