Re: Residentswap
andara - 02-06-08 02:03 sdn is student doctor network.
i saw the resident swap, but i thought is for people who already have residency positions can switch with other people with residency positions because of some personal reason or another. doesn't make much sense considering how trouble goes into actual process into getting a residency position and how the program goes through process of making good candidates.

Re: Residentswap
rebecca - 03-05-08 13:00 Residentswap is completely legit. I found my Neurology spot thanks to to it. I also got another invite for an interview from it, but I already accepted the Neurology offer.
If you did not receive any responses, maybe the residency programs were simply not interested in your application? Did you call the programs too?

Re: Residentswap
taghrid - 03-06-08 21:47 I mentioned before that I applied to 10 programs , and did not get a single response, May be because I was using the e mail listed in SDN, But when I started to use the emails on FREIDA, I got now 5 responses, So I am sorry I might be misled you but, As you said the PDs have 100s of applications at the time , So it is not easy, But the problem that they post PGY1 at this time of the year and I think it is not logic, As I sent an email to many of them and I got a reply that they are done with the interviews and they are accepting through ERAS!!, So I think it is good.GL.

Re: Residentswap
radhamesramos - 03-09-08 18:59 Thanks! that is good to know, if it works like Find-A-Resident, it all makes sense, because in three years using their service, Find-A-Resident hasn't helped me at all

Re: Residentswap
taghrid - 03-12-08 22:42 I will go back to my country, try to improve my CV by working i good hospital , there are so many opportunities all over the world, other than US, I now realized that America is not appealing anymore, If you look around you you will learn that America is going down in everything and the dream to live and work there started to fade.GL

Re: Residentswap
TheOne - 03-13-08 00:06 I agree with the point of going out there and hunt for opportunities but disagree with the notion of that America is going down in everything, America has been and will remain a nation that give the world what we all've been looking for in our countries.. freedom, democracy, etc. I mean I can sit and count for hours and hours what this nation has offered the world, nevertheless, it pushed the competition line to the highest levels.
Good luck and remember, it's not over till the end of March 20th.

Re: Residentswap
radhamesramos - 03-13-08 09:38 Let me tell you one thing, before attempting to come to America, I applied for residency in two countries of the European Union, and the ordeal I passed through, the administrative disorder, and the prejudice you get in there is incredible. The medical education is premium, but the things you have to put up with are just unbearable, so I guess America is still the place to be...besides, for FMGs, America is teh only country that has a really clear policy...believe I inquired everywhere and things for FMGs are not as clear as in America

Re: Residentswap
taghrid - 03-13-08 10:14 Dear Radh, Did you try to take mrcp?? of facp?? these are international certificate and easier than USMLE and the board exams and if you have usmle you can work in USA or any part in the world , they bwill help even in your own country, i regret I did not knock this door before wasting my money and time in preparing for usmle, goining for interview and waiting, you can accomplish you dream anywhere instead of waiting for miracle to happen. For me I finished residency back home and I thoght that opportunities in USA only, But when I applied for a fellowship in middle east I got one, Even in Australia Canada there is a chance everywhere.GL

Re: Residentswap
radhamesramos - 03-13-08 16:42 You are right about the exams! and probably the oppotunities, there are some, but what I mean is that their policy towards Foreign graduates is not as clear as in the U.S. Like for example, in Canda, this varies from province to province...in the UK, you know how they closed doors to the Foreigns...the easiest one for me was Ireland, because they have a genuine need, but their medical education is not as complete as in the U.S. (if not ask that to all the irish residents you may find in some american hospitals)
The opportunities, they do exist, but I don't find their policy toward foreign medical graduates very clear, and besides is even more difficult to stay there afterwards
