Revised Step 1 Content Outline

As a result of the work of this group, the number of items in the examination with non-clinical presentations was reduced; this was announced on April 21, 2010.


At its June 2010 meeting, the Step 1 Committee approved a revised Step 1 content outline. This revision involves recoding items previously included in the General Principles portion of the content outline into Organ System sections of the outline. In addition, items from the General Principles section of the content outline that test immunology were reclassified to a new category, Immune System. This change reflects expansion in the field of immunology.

Step 1 examinees who expect to test on or after mid-May 2011 may want to become familiar with both the old and the updated content outlines when preparing for their examination.
