there is no safe number but with above 5 good interviews you may get a chance.

I applied to 30 programs and only got 1 interview (I did observership there). Of course, that also depends on your credentials. Mine were kind of mediocre, so probably you could have more chances, but please do not send less than 15 applications

IMGs should apply to an average of 70 programs to get a reasonable number of interview. I know many who applied to over 200.

With radhames and 30 programs it was too little of number but good he got matched.

the 30 programs was only surgery, and only got one interview (Jackson Memorial/UM and I did obsie there)

For IM, I applied to 50 programs and got 4 interviews . So, the odds in surgery are worse, so try all the programs that your customized list tells you.
