Spanish as a requirement for FM

does anyone know if applying in PR family medicine requires applicants to know spanish??

In PR I can tell you that 80% of the people do not speak english and spanish is a requirement in my own opinion.

PR or Puerto Rico is a spanish speaking territory. Most of portoricans that live in New York don't even speak spanish, so make the math. And for Family medicine there are some communities in the continental U.S. where spanish is a must.

It doesn't hurt learning spanish. Even in us, there are a lot of areas with a lot spanish speaking population eg. california, texas, new york, nevada, etc. take classes, or get a medical spanish to english book, or find someone to teach you spanish. It makes a good impression.

Yes, you MUST to know Spanish. Anyway, if you decide to not go to Puerto Rico I recommend you to learn the language because in US Spanish speaking population is growing very fast.

And believe me@ you will learn a lot in the hospitals with your patients, if you go to a strong hipanic community

What In Situ asked me is where I am from, and then told me that he was born in Puerto Rico, now i answered him that I am form the Dominican Republic

i would think so, since 70% of population speak spanish. i mean look at nyc. most doctors are force to learn spnish because most pt speaks spanish , and do not speak anyenglish
