Step 2 cs IMG
There are various ways to ectract information from a patient.
In step 2 cs there is something purposely hidden and the SP never directs himself towards it purposefully and diverts the candidate, this is an exam and the mind does not work in a relaxed manner as there is tension about failing which comes true . I feel that some relaxation can be given without being so henious.

bingousmle - 04-07-09 14:50 i beg your pardon, but i guess the real purpose is not only about doing the exam, test the communication skills, but it is also to judge how well can one fair when tension prevails... any and every case that we wouldsee later is a challenge in itself,,and there its going to be very real, so i guess its all about how can you handle your demeanor... ignore my comments if you do not believe

So as not get very tense during the step-2cs exam,it is important to vigourously practice before the exam.A vigourous practice of each and every case scenario before the exam and just being with the patient during the exam is the key to success.
Good luck.

Re: step 2 cs
bobby - 04-20-09 12:04 bingo,I do not exactly recall whether it is USMLEworld or something else, but there is a good video which shows examination of all systems in a precise, efficient and smooth manner. It helps to brush up the skills that one already possess.I will try to find out which one it is...just give me a day or two.
As you know TIME is the most important aspect in this, so just practise and time yourself. Most important of all No TENSION please--as it will ruin everything.
When are you planning to take the test?

Re: step 2 cs
bingousmle - 04-20-09 13:11 hey thanks for the advice , would really appreciate if you could tell me the videos you are referring to, i was planning to take the test by mid july, but now since most of the centres are not free until august , i have little choice left...
hey did you participate in this years match?

Re: step 2 cs
bobby - 04-20-09 14:45 I had not got my ECFMG certification so could not participate in The Match but did have high hopes in "The Scramble"---but that too proved to be futile. So keeping my fingers crossed for next year.
Shall try getting the name of CS video.
Seems that you can get your test dates in Aug/Sep 2009--are you planning to clear 2CK in the meanwhile.I guess that would be a very good idea.
CS preparation would take max 3-4 weeks of preparation...moreso as you are a fresh candidate.Well thats my opinion.Better if you practise with a medico friend.

Re: step 2 cs
bobby - 04-21-09 12:50 ammara,I am not sure if it really makes a difference which center you choose.I took mine at Chicago...only because that was most convenient location for me.I did not know of and did not consider any factors in choosing the center.Though I did commit few errors -- fortunately I passed in the first attempt.
Bingo, the video I am referring to for 2CS is not usmle world.I found it while searching on the internet.

There is no advantage as such in taking the Step-2CS exam in a particular test center.
It all depends on one's level of practice to handle the SP encounters.
Good Luck.
