Stage 1: Prepubertal
Stage 2: Sparse growth of hair at base of penis or along labia
• Girls: Breast bud development
• Boys: Enlargement of scrotum and testes with reddening and thickening of scrotal skin
Stage 3: Darkening, coarser hair sparsely in pubic area
• Girls: Enlargement of breasts
• Boys: Elongation of penis and increased size of testes
Stage 4: Adult pubic hair distribution but smaller area
covered with no extension to medial thighs
• Girls: Areola and papilla begin to mound above the
level of the breast
• Boys: Increase in breadth and development of penis,
darkening of scrotal skin, enlargement of tests
Stage 5: Adult breasts, genitals, and hair distribution
Now what is the premature puberty?

conym5 - 07-25-09 12:29 puberty was considered precocious in girls younger than 8 years; however, recent studies indicate that signs of early puberty (breasts and pubic hair) are often present in girls (particularly black girls) aged 6-8 years.For boys, onset of puberty before age 9 years is considered precocious.

In girls, the telltale signs of precocious puberty include any of the following before 7 or 8 years of age:
breast development
pubic or underarm hair development
rapid height growth — a growth "spurt"
onset of menstruation
acne
"mature" body odor
In boys, the signs of precocious puberty before 9 years of age include:
enlargement of the testicles or penis
pubic, underarm, or facial hair development
rapid height growth — a growth "spurt"
voice deepening
acne
"mature" body odor
