Understanding Match Algorithm

There r many applicants who want to understand the match process. Here is its explanation in simple terms.

One should always rank programs according to his/her own level of interest in each program and not according to the way he thinks the program precieves(ranks ) him/her.

If a program ranks you high, and there are still free spots left in its quota then when the algorithm reaches your name, and you are free, even if you ranked the program last of your choices, you will match there.

E.g. even if someone ranked the program higher in his ROL than you did, but you were ranked higher than him by that program, then you will match there.

This is true even if someone ranked the program 1/10 in his ROL and you ranked the program 10/10.

The algorithm works in favour of programs so that the programs get their most highly ranked candidates that are free to match into their program.
From our direction, it means that we can not lose unless we are ranked very low on the programs ROL ,or there are very few spots and our rank is just one number below the quota.

I hope u get it.
Good Luck.

hi adonis, does the ranking of a program higher or lower in the rank order list ( in which i presume there is no minimum number) be known to the respective program?
