hi

just want to express my gratitude to the one and radha .... ( the name so long and so difficult to remember , but i will get there :P) for answering my questions so promptly , the more i understand the process of the match , the more prepared i am and ironically the more frustration! because it seems like it's a struggle to get into america!

anyways, i'm wondering which of the hospital do u guys preferred?the university affiliated or the community based? do they offer the same quality of training?is community based hospital much more easier to get in than univeristy hospital? and the rate of entering fellowship between the two?

thank you

Well, your question is very complex to answer, because definitely there is a lot to consider when selecting a program. Of course, we IMGs cannot be too choosy nowadays, not even if you have double 99s or great USCE o other stuff like the ones that make you a great candidate.

University programs are by far the best and also the most difficult to get in. There you don't need to worry about fellowships, they worry about you not getting into fellowships...of course there are some community programs that are as good as some universitiy programs.

The great question is: what do you want? for example, I did observership in a University program of high reputation worldwide, they are very strong in research, but in surgery the residents don''t get much exposue until the end of the second year, when in some community hospitals they get exposure very early in their training, but research ad academics is not that important. First of all, think what do you want to do in ten years, and then choose the program that is right for you

thanks so much!

i value practical more than theory. but like you've said, we cannot be too choosy if you are some1 like me, no usce and no greencard . so i should be very grateful if any program wants me.

regarding the quality of training i dont thinkt he community hosp are anyway behind the university hops its the reacrh and the chances for fellowship that differs , both of which are betetr off in the university hospitals than in the community hospitals

but some community hosp let u do some months at universities in the same state which cam compensate , so it all depends what the applicant strongly wishes to do

some community programs are so small that they have to send their trainees to a lot of rotations in big university programs, so they get exposed to a lot of good rotations, so get to know a lot of people...so

I graduate my Internal Medicine Residency in 2 months. I am at a large University based program and love it. The training has been top notch!

But some like the smaller home style feel.

It is up to you.
Best wishes.
