Do you know if usmle people make adjustment when raising the passing score?? I mean I took step 2 in 1999, I got 80 ( 193) and the passing score was fro 172, Now the passing (75) is 184 , are PDs aware of this difference??

drsri117 - 01-17-08 07:30 thts what i have heard too!!
most programmes look at the 3 digit score some have cut offs at 190 some are at 215 (these are a few that i know)
some even lower some even higher, like the one in florida where they want only those with a score 250 and above to apply!
but one question!!
youv said that you took the test in 1999 and its 2008 now so its been 9 years since you have taken the test!!
is the score still valid!!??
my knowledge is that the score is valid for only 7 years and then you sure can retake it after 7 years if you wish to
was it different back then??

Re: usmle score adjustment
radhamesramos - 01-17-08 09:01 if the ECFMG certificate was gotten in 2004, now this grade is good for life. If it was before than that, retake the exams, that is a second chance.
Programs only see the three digit score.

radhamesramos - 01-17-08 18:17 Of course, it is not the same thing a people who got a 208 and a 85 than a 210 and a 85

Re: usmle score adjustment
mindswapper - 01-19-08 19:52 The score will NOT be adjusted for the recent upgrading in passing stds.
3-digit score is more imp but some old programs still use the 2-digit scores as well!

Re: usmle score adjustment
doctor1 - 02-12-08 11:15 its not adjustmnet it is the percentile thats taken into account so the 3 score u get for the 3 digit number varies usually with increasing competition a hugher 3 dgit no. is req for a given 2 digit score

Re: usmle score adjustment
doctor1 - 02-13-08 08:40 yeah it surprises me when some programs set the 3 digit score as the criteria while others have the 2 diigit score as one of their eligkitbility criteria
