hello dear friends me too had tthe same experianceof rejecting visa from chennai consulate ,india.my visa rejected twice in july and august08 .both instances they gave me the blue sheet.first it was an american lady she was actually very rude to me .she asked for the step 1 score sheet.i gave the same but along with that analysis paper .it showed my poor performance in ethics and epidemology.she asked me why?
i said this entirely different from what we practice in india.she doesnt seems interested in the same.my score was only 84 .and my st2 score was not released (it released the very next day).second time i was well prepared for the interview it was white lady she asked many questions and i believe she was satisfied with my answers till the last moment and then she turned it down and rejected my visa saying that visa is rejected under sec 214 b /potential emigrant.so now i am planning to take my third and final attemt jan .hope some of u can give me some tips for the same.can anybody tell me the duration for which we ask for the visa ?
what is the purpose of ur travel? shall we say that i would like to attend the scramble too in march/i would like to try for an observeship?
pls reply

make two kind of files, first one should be comprising of academic and other comprising of your bond to your homeland collect all the documents that directly or indirectly tell that you will come back, telling about land your parents have, accounts they are holding, dont give them a reason to believe that you are needy.
in your academic file try to put all the possible certificates of good standing experiences from INDIA, SOME RECOMMENDATION LETTERS,AND THIS TIME as YOU might have already inferred to hold back your other sheet of scores detail, that is only for the candidate

Though I was rejected visa twice , on my third chance--on 24-12-08,I was fortunate 2 get it.My stp2cs was on 30.12-08.As I am trying for 2009 residency,I had 2 do stp2cs before Dec31.I think Sactadoc-- has given u important points .You need not show the analysis sheet.Better if u show u yourself can afford the trip.It will be better if u have some amount in your account--make sure account is dated at least 1yr back 2 avoid questions.
Carry papers,certificates--showing your good academic achievements. Are u working? Better if u show u are currently working.Support this with work experience certificate.
Be pleasant & confident.I know it is not easy on 3rd chance.
All the best. You will get it this time.

depends on the country you are applying from, there are different time lags for visa issuance, IN India , IT also VARIES from REGION to REGION, SO VISIT THE WEBSITE OF US EMBASSY IN YOUR COUNTRY/REGION AND FIND OUT HOW MANY DAYS ARE REQUIRED FOR PROCESSING OF VISA, and apply according to that.

thx sacktdoc and adonis for your sugestions.I am IMG from india

i wanted to ask two things:
1)the period of visa is counted from the day VO grants the visa or the day on which one lands in US
2)whats the type of visa one should apply
a.visitors visa which is B1/B2
b. j 1 visa or student visa

thanks

okay, so here is the info u wanted
we all get b1-b2 visa for taking exam, but if you join some course in US,foR which you should have an admission letter from that institution, then one can get a student visa.
b1-b2 that is issued form India is for 10 years duration, multiple entry, but some have got ONE YEAR as well, of course it is counted from the date it is issued but then on this visa there is a duration of stay that one is alloted when we arrive in US which can vary form 1 month to 3 months but cannot exceed 6 months.
j1 IS FOR GETTING INTO TRAINING PROGRAM, RESIDENCY, RESEARCH.

and what about internships ? can someone do internships on b1 and is there any possibility that a b1 can be converted to h1 without need to go back to home country ? and is J1 convertable to h1b?

No, u can not do residency(internship )on a B1/B2 visa.

As doctors are subject to the 2-year home country requirement and since doctors do receive U.S. government funds for for their residency program in the U.S., and their skills are critically needed in their home country,so, doctors can not change their j1 visa to the H1B visa.

Strictly speaking, the term conversion does not find any place in US immigration laws. You can stay back in the US, based on the status of your H-1B visa approval. In order to avoid getting into the wrong books of immigration authorities, you will need to get an approval from INS through your employer.

When you make a trip to your country, you will need to get your H-1B visa re-stamped. Rather, you will have to get your H-1B visa stamped if you leave the US.

Good Luck.

i guess they are different.. students visa is issued when you seek an admission for MPH, or other masters degrees, you are issued a letter from the particular university and then you get studdents visa.. that is why people opt for GRE route to the US, cause its easier to get.

observership is done with vistors visa, j1 is after residency, when ecfmg after certifying you, helps you process the papers

Bingousmle, is right.
Usmlefever, for observership one only needs a B1/B2 Visitor Visa.
