see from my experience i can say is u can do lots in observership
there wont be a chance to examine cases
but u can present cases in rounds
u can do some work up plans
u can help residents in some of their projects
be punctual , show interests
take part in discussion

Meghaww said almost everything. Since you cannot touch patients (that is relative in some places) or perform any procedure, the interest and discipline you show, will be more beneficial to you than any attempt to perform any duty.
Good LORs is an ambiguous concept, since you are not supposed to be performing any duty, what would the writer tell in the letter? And if he/she writes that you performed a lot of things (even if you did) and helped a lot, that could bring him/her trouble. So, a good LOR depends a lot on the talent of the attending to write good letters without bringing trouble to anyone and his/herself, and of course a good disposition to help

ok see what radhe has told is very correct
so first u go there
see how the situation is
see what they expect from u, talk to residents and u will come to know what u should be doing ok
good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Some people get so used to observerships that they never want it to be over at the end
