When To Take Step-1?

Hello all!

I am new to this forum. I am a medical student in the UK. I'm thinking of sitting the USMLE.

I took a look at some of the questions for step 1. A lot of them seem to be clinically oriented. Although I studied the relevant material from the basic sciences, I still could not answer (still a 2nd year student). What is a good time to do the step 1 and get a good score? I've also heard that doing step 2 CK before step 1 usually improves the score. Any reasons ?

Thank you.

Ye,all Step-1 is clinically oriented. For an IMG it is better to take Step-1 during Internship or right after completing it.This because by then one has also studied the clinical subjects.Due to this one is better prepared to take Step-1 which is clinically oriented and can score high. Most IMGs resort to this strategy and r successful.
I do not think that taking Step-2CK before Step-1 improves one's Step-1 score, but I think the reverse is true.
Remember to take Steps only when u r confident that u can score high.
Good Luck!

I dont think taking Step-2CK before Step-1 improves Step-1 score, butstep 1 before 2ck may rather be ebneficial...thats what many do.
