Hi there, I have heard that if someone wants to go for a fellowship it's better to get a J1 visa than an H1B for residency.Does anyone know if it is true? Please explain, thanks!

Yes, it is true because one gets a permission to stay for 7 years on a J1 Visa and only for 6 years on an H1b visa. So, one gets an additional year to stay if one has a J1 visa.Due this some competitive fellowships which r four years in length r possible to be done on a J1 visa.
Good Luck!
