Well, as I told you it was my third year: first year I just applied for surgery, of course did not get any single interview; second year, I applied for both IM and surgery, got only one interview, didn't get it either. This year I applied again for both...got 4 interviews in IM, one in surgery. I guess, I got IM, because the surgery program said to me that they won't be able to rank me...however I did rank them in case they changed their minds...but I guess, I got into one of the IM programs.

Thanks for everyone who prayed with me, and hope that you can get into a residency program anyday...Hopefully during the scramble.

ur experience hs been quite tough
three match, means going through so much of worries and anxiety
i had terrible experience this year
hope for next year i do something good
i got 4 observerships to look upon now
2 in obgyn, 2 in surgery
but this time i feel i should go for back up in FM
i should have done that last year, but doing FM is not at all my wish
also i applied on oct 1st last year
do u think it makes lot of difference?
i feel totally confused, seing on all the forums i found very few people getting matched in obgyn!!!!!!!
almost negligible
what shall i do for this year is again a big question.
having obgyn and surg observership, it will be so funny if i apply for FM
can u tell anything?

Look, for FM any, and I mean any observership is good and valid, since you will be exposed during your training to tons of things of other specialties.

Another thing, try to get your LORs early, and please, apply September 1st, to a lot of programs (if money permits), and try also for IM...And good luck!

Well, my plan was like this: I had a very good job in my native country (I am from the Dominican Republic), when I left my job last year, I had enough money sved for maintain mself.

Now that the money is running out, fortuantely I got matched.

I am going to IM, try to get a job and my GC after these 3 years of sacrifice, and then I'll go for surgery...sounds crazy, eh?

thats why i wnt and applied only for obgn in my first try
this time i have kept in my mind back up plan of FM.
but def its not the ultimate go!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for answering. I am curious because I am an old graduate and this was my first match (although I only started applying after Christmas because was waiting for results of Sptep 2 CK) and I got no interviews. I am going to try once more (2009) starting early and probably will take Step 3. I wish you the best in the residency.

First is first, by christmas most of the programs have given away all their interview spots. Pass step 3 and get at least one observership. Sounds like a lot to do, but believe me, if you start now, you can do it for the next match. Like passing step 3 in June or July, nad get the obsie for august, so when you apply, you are already doing the obsie. And good luck!
