Do not do any oral or throat examination, and eveb the cxr is not necessary these days.
First issue is to secure the aor ways, take him/her to the operation room and urgently call the ENT doctor and everything should be available for intubation!!!

(a) acute epiglotitis (typical thumb sign on xray)
(b) Tounge blade should never be used --->reflex laryngospasm & cardiorespi arrest
(c) First step is always securing airway
