The Match & Residency - years after graduation
years after graduation
ask_question - 09-26-08 08:40
I have heard that if many years have passed after graduation, interview calls are not sent.
I did my graduation 13 years back in India and then did my post graduation in ENT and have been practicing as an ENT specialist since then.
My step I score is 90.
If I get a good score in the rest of the usmle, what are my chances of getting a residency?
I do not have any USCE or any LOR's from US.

InSitu - 10-05-08 13:08 Ye sit is harder to get a lot of interviews when your graduation ear is remote but its not impossible. No one can evaluate your chances.

mohhaider - 10-05-08 14:32 Yes ,harder to get lot of interviews but not impossible .But getting at least six months of USCE and LOR from Us doctors may help you so much .But ENT is a very competetive residency .

nina42 - 10-05-08 18:47 If you have been working all this years in ENT as you mentioned there is a chance. I know for the fact that some programs( not many) offer you position, they even accept your specialty meaning that you don't need to do residency, BUT other than this program there is no place for you to work. You will be stuck with them as long as you are in state. unless you go for residency and be independent.

sackatdoc - 10-05-08 19:29 since you have good step1 score , you prove to the PDs that you are academically sound, and as you asked if you get good scores in rest of the steps as well, i think things would be possible, there are people around who have done that, so can you,And by the way, even if we say that things are terrible or next to impossible, after taking a plunge, will you be able to quit without completing what you started. So dont care what others say, just give it your best,Good luck.

docraj - 11-16-08 01:12 I cant help but to ask. Why after thirteen years would you want to start your training all over again? Aren't you satisfied with life in India.
